Its scary taking the plunge, getting on a plane and not knowing what is on the other side. They say that you should do one thing a day that scares you. Well giving a 4 hour lecture in front of 40+ people in the University Town Hall was pretty intimidating. I didn’t sleep the night before and began to doubt my own abilities. I questioned myself and everything I do. I don’t know what I was thinking when I decided to host such an event. Tired and barely alert my mom and I arrived at 7:30am to campus to unload the posters, food and presentation materials.
We scrambled together to set up the room and welcome the waiting guest in the lobby. When presenting I spoke super fast and wasn’t sure that anyone was interested, but as the day progressed the audience engaged together in an amazing dialogue. The workshop was called Fashion Business Weekend, which aimed to provide fashion business education in a 4 hour time frame. We discussed many issues, but the one that pulled my heart strings was about reviving the garment district in Baltimore.
At the end of the event I wanted to pass out, but was off to prepare for a photoshoot in the Fells Point area of Baltimore. A fun initiative to empower inner city girls through the book I am co-writing with four other Baltimore Girls. We hope to inspire girls 7-17 years old living in the inner city of Baltimore where we all grew up. Well I know that I pushed myself to the limits and have doubted myself to tears but in the end man I am so glad I did it. I loved speaking in front of the audience and want to perfect my public speaking abilities even more.
