Not sure whether most people are aware that most fashion companies operate at a loss for the first three years. Fashion schools do not like to talk about the ugly side of fashion. Rather they prefer to brush it under the rug and allow the students to figure it out once they are in the industry. Many of these elements I am learning only now as I build my business.
Toward the end of this month I will start running workshops in different cities called ‘fashion business school weekend‘. They will be an accelerated model of my Masters in Fashion Entrepreneurship to teach those interested in entering the fashion industry or wanting to start their own businesses. There will be the elements of theory, experience and truth. The ‘truth’ being the reality of struggle that a fashion designer will face and my recommendations of how to avoid those pitfalls.
This is a great way for me to share my passion and knowledge after so many years in the industry while making money to push the dream forward. My business school has agreed to be a partner in the workshop and will provide the branding and facility support that I need to make it happen. I have always wanted to teach and now I get to build my own curriculum and schedule. If you can’t find your dream job, well then make it.
You go, Girl. This is very exciting and positive news!
